A defining band of the late 70s/early 80s era, The Specials, along with Jerry Dammers' iconic Two Tone Records, helped ignite the ska revival that swept through the UK. Originally formed as The Coventry Automatics in 1977, The Specials combined Jamaican ska and Rocksteady with punk energy, influencing bands like Madness, The Beat, and The Selecter.

Their debut single, “Gangsters,” was released in 1979, quickly selling out its initial 5,000 copies. Following the success of their next single, “A Message To You Rudy,” The Specials released their self-titled debut album in October 1979. This groundbreaking album, which mixed socially conscious lyrics with infectious ska rhythms, would go on to inspire generations of musicians.

This limited edition clear vinyl reissue comes in a 3mm spine sleeve, pressed on 180g clear vinyl with an OBI strip.
