DAVID BOWIE - Diamond Dogs - Picture Disc LP - 50th Anniversary
On May 24th, 2024, marking its Golden Jubilee, a limited edition 50th-anniversary picture disc LP of Diamond Dogs will be released. This edition is pressed from the same master as the half-speed version. The album's first single, ‘Rebel Rebel,’ peaked at number 5 in the UK, with the album itself reaching number 1 in the UK and number 5 in the USA.
This new pressing of Diamond Dogs was meticulously crafted. It was cut on a customized late Neumann VMS80 lathe with fully recapped electronics, using 192kHz restored masters of the original tapes, and underwent no additional processing during transfer. The half-speed version was cut by John Webber at AIR Studios.
The album's creation was influenced by Bowie's failed attempt to secure the rights for a theatrical production of George Orwell’s 1984 and the works of William S. Burroughs. Bowie's interviews with Burroughs for Rolling Stone in November 1973 left a significant impact. The songs on Diamond Dogs paint an urban apocalyptic scenario, with Bowie famously appearing on the cover as a controversial half-man, half-dog hybrid, a creation by Belgian artist Guy Peellaert based on photos by renowned photographer Terry O’Neill.
